Session: From Rejection to Director: 18 “no’s” later, courage and allies turned my career roadblocks into a breakthrough.

In the fast-paced world of tech, career setbacks are inevitable—but they don’t have to define your journey. In this talk, I’ll share my personal story of navigating 15 interview rejections and three promotion denials before ultimately landing my Director role. Along the way, I learned that resilience alone wasn’t enough: it also took courage to escalate when I found myself blocked unfairly, and it took the strength of the network I had built over the years to open new doors and champion my growth. Through reframing rejection as redirection, leaning on allies & sponsors, and using challenges as stepping stones, I discovered how persistence, courage, and community can fuel career breakthroughs.

Key Takeaways

  • Attendees will walk away with practical strategies to handle career roadblocks, advocate for themselves with confidence, and build the kind of networks that turn setbacks into long-term success.
